Lac Courte Oreilles Local News

By Mary Wolf & Dorothy Miller

LCO K-12 students returned to school on Monday August 31, with a half a day, the Flag Pole ceremony took place along with the classes getting organized.  The first Dress-Up Pow-wow was held Friday Sept. 4. It is going to be an exciting year working with the students again!

The LCO Elders Association are working hard to bring scholarships for eligible students.  The scholarship application is almost done. With the help of Leslie Ramczyk from the college, the scholarship application should be available in October. What a mile stone for the elders!

The Association would like the help of the Tribe for names of LCO men and women in the military. They want to send packages to them so they know they haven't been forgotten. There is a list of items that can be sent to them in " if it fits it ships" boxes. The Elders will probably be doing extra fundraising for the postage. Call Ellen Martin at 634-0595 with the names. If families want to help with this it would be greatly appreciated. The deadline is October 1st.

Also, the Association offers a belated, but big, thanks to Don Corbine for the donation of venison.
