Panel to review Indian health probe

Fargo, North Dakota (AP) September 2010

Members of a U.S. Senate committee are scheduled to hear an update about an investigation into American Indian Health Service facilities in a region that includes North Dakota and three other states.

North Dakota Sen. Byron Dorgan, chairman of the Indian Affairs Committee, launched the investigation in June after numerous reports of poor health services at a hospital on the Turtle Mountain reservation.

Among those who were scheduled to testify at Tuesday’s hearing in Washington are Yvette Roubideaux, director of Indian Health Service, and Charlene Red Thunder, director of the Aberdeen Area of the IHS.

The Aberdeen Area includes North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska.
