Officials say they’re hoping the new, $20 million casino project that will replace the Ohiya Casino in northeast Nebraska will be ready to open by June.
Television station KTIV says (http://bit.ly/o2ZZYT) ground for the new casino was being broken this week. Santee Sioux Tribe officials say the tribe’s project includes an entertainment center, 49-room hotel and an 18-hole golf course.
The casino sits a few miles east of Niobrara.
The Santee tribe is using a loan from the Shakopee Mdewakanton (mehd’-WAH’-kuh-tuhn) Sioux Community, which operates Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake, Minn.
