Sioux Falls, South Dakota (AP) July 2011

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has announced nearly $3.2 million in grants for the Sisseton-Wahpeton Housing Authority.

The Indian Housing Block Grant funds are to benefit low-income families living on reservations.

HUD Regional Administrator Rick Garcia says the Sisseton-Wahpeton tribe intends on using the funds to improve living conditions in its 475 rental units and maintain affordable housing.

Eligible activities for the grants include housing development, assistance to housing developed under the Indian Housing Program, housing services to families and individuals, crime prevention and safety and other model activities.
