A former dealer at the Nooksack River Casino in Whatcom County has been sentenced to two months in prison for a cheating scam that included the son of Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels.
Levi Mayfield, 24, of Bellingham, must also perform 90 hours of community service and repay the Nooksack Tribe $90,510 after pleading guilty to a conspiracy charge.
In August 2005, Jacob Nickels, then a pit boss at the casino, approached Mayfield and solicited his participation in the cheating scheme. A few months later, Mayfield performed false shuffles that allowed two members of a multistate casino-cheating ring to walk away with more than $90,000, according to documents filed in U.S. District Court.
Nickels was sentenced during December to three months in prison and an equal amount of restitution.
Another casino dealer has been sentenced to three months in prison, four months home confinement, and $45,000 in restitution.
