The Ho-Chunk Nation has filed a new lawsuit against the state related to its disputed casino gambling compact.
The lawsuit filed mid January in Dane County Circuit Court deals with the issue of whether the governor had the right to sign a contract with the tribe that runs forever.
The tribe argues that a 2004 court ruling disallowing a perpetual compact with another tribe should also apply to the Ho Chunk. The state argues that ruling does not apply to the Ho Chunk.
The state says the new lawsuit is another attempt to delay resolution of the case. A federal lawsuit over the compact is pending.
The state is seeking $72 million from the Ho Chunk which the tribe says it is not obligated to pay.
