The Seattle International Film Festival is bringing back a film with some of the earliest depictions of Northwest Indians.

A restored version of “In the Land of the Head Hunters” was screened June 10 at the Moore Theatre – the same theater where it premiered in 1914 in Seattle.

The film was made as an entertainment venture by Edward Curtis, who is now famed for his photos of Northwest Indians. It was filmed over a year at Alert Bay on northern Vancouver Island. The story line includes a love triangle, action sequences and ceremonial dancing.

Although it flopped at theaters and is not a documentary, it is considered a culturally significant motion picture classic.
