On August 16th, Kaptain Robbie Knievel sets a world motorcycle
jump record by jumping four airplanes and a helicopter at the Lac
Courte Oreilles Ojibwe casino on the LCO Reservation near Hayward,
Wisconsin. The jump spanned about 220 feet.
During the afternoon there was music, an introduction by the Lac Courte Oreilles Singers (on the late John Beaudin's drum) who sang a welcome song for the crowd, a drop of three sky-divers just before a storm passed over, wetting down an estimated 8-10,000 people, and there was plenty of food. According to casino workers, this was the biggest crowd yet to attend an event at the LCO Casino.
Knievel whose show was delayed about two hours because of rain
continued on by opening the show with a display of his skills. His motorcycle
crashed into hay bales covering a light-pole after sliding on wet pavement and dislocating
his shoulder. His daughter let NFIC know that his collar bone was not fractured as local officials had thought before he was conveyed to the hospital after the show.
Despite the dislocated shoulder, Knievel gets back on his cycle and takes several dry runs
and pass-bys with his left arm obviously not as useful and a look of
pain on his face at first. And then, with the crowd in great anticipation, he makes the jump with ease and lands with room on the ramp.
Knievel holds 19 world jump records.
In
this collection, we use 6 selections mixed: 1. General crowd;
2. Sky-diving before storm hits; 3. Intro of Robbie Knievel; 4. Wheelie spill; 5. Dry run up ramp;
and 6. Jumping 4 planes and 1 helicopter.
