A man convicted in the nonfatal shooting of a federal officer was sentenced to 12 years and 11 months in federal prison.
A jury in July convicted 43-year-old Kelly Ward of Little Eagle of assault, discharging a firearm during a crime of violence, and assault resulting in serious bodily injury.
Authorities said Bureau of Indian Affairs Police Sgt. Louis Poitra was responding to a domestic violence call in Little Eagle on Sept. 24, 2008 when he was shot in the leg by Ward.
