Crime/Justice - Drug Charges/Cases

Pierre, South Dakota (AP) Feb. 2010

Court documents show a plea agreement has been reached in child abuse charges against a woman whose two children died in a house fire set by their older brother on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation.

A federal judge scheduled a change-of-plea hearing in Pierre for 37-year-old Wenona Rooks of Cherry Creek. She has pleaded not guilty to an indictment charging four counts of child abuse.

Her son, 20-year-old Akeem Rooks, is serving a life prison sentence after pleading guilty to two counts of second-degree murder for the fatal fire and one count of aggravated sexual abuse.
