Pierre, South Dakota (AP) Feb. 2010
Gov. Mike Rounds says he will proclaim a Year of Unity at a Feb. 19 ceremony to commemorate and build upon a previous effort to promote understanding and cooperation among different races and cultures.
February marks the 20th anniversary of the Year of Reconciliation that was announced by the late Gov. George Mickelson.
Rounds says the 2010 Year of Unity will build upon the legacy and work of the leaders who moved the state forward in the Year of Reconciliation.
Leaders of the state’s nine American Indian tribes, community leaders and state officials have been invited to the Capitol for the ceremony.
