The Danza de los Voladores de Papantla (Dance of Papantla's flyers) is a ritualistic dance in Veracruz, Mexico performed by the Totonac Indians and Olmeca Indians. There is an initial dance made by five men, the instruments being a carrizo flute, a tamborcillo and maracas.

Hopi journalist auctioning off bra to raise funds for cancer cure

patty_peterwithbra09.jpgThe Denver Chapter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation has created a fundraising auction to help fight breast cancer. Several journalists, including Hopi journalist Patty Talahongva decorated their bras in order for them to be auctioned off as part of the fundraiser.

Scientists race to prevent ash tree’s extinction

Mark Widrlechner is out to save a species from extinction.

It’s the native ash tree, and although it provides $25 billion worth of timber and decorates backyards across North America, an unstoppable bug has slowly killed millions of trees in 13 states and could cause the species’ ultimate demise – unless Widrlechner is successful.

Hopi High radio students win 12 awards

Hopi High radio students won 12 awards, including three individual state champions, at the Arizona Interscholastic Press Association at Arizona State University Sept. 30 on the main campus. Jeffrey Palmer, former director of education for the Native American Journalists Association, calls the Hopi High radio program the premier Native American teen show in the Southwest.

Palmer said the awards shows that Hopi High radio program is on the cutting edge of the radio field.
