Nominees Eagle & Hawk and Michael Jacobs
Perform at Indian Summer Festival, Sept. 5 - 7
Milwaukee, Wisconsin (ICC) 9-08
Indian Summer Festivals, Inc. proudly announces the nominees for the fifth annual Indian Summer Music Awards (ISMA). These nominees have advanced to the next round of judging, where winners will be selected.
The ISMA program is devoted to the recognition of both established and emerging artists and their outstanding contributions toward indigenous peoples music. This awards presentation, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6, is an example of how Native American music is now being recognized around the world and is a true statement for Native American entrepreneurship.
The music awards program is the result of a partnership between Indian Summer Festival (North Americas largest Native American festival) and Looking Glass Productions. The awards are sponsored by Mohican North Star Bingo and Casino.
The goal is to honor the best Native American music that has been commercially released between March 2, 2007 and March 1, 2008. In addition, the awards have been created to increase awareness of the history and diversity of both traditional and contemporary American Indian culture.
Awards will be given in the following 13 categories: alternative rock, blues, classic rock, contemporary instrumental, country, flute, folk, hip-hop, native spirit (non-Indian), pop, spiritual, traditional drum and traditional vocal.
Nominees and past ISMA Winners who are booked as performers on the festivals stages include Eagle and Hawk at 6:30 p.m. Friday and 10:30 p.m. Saturday, and Michael Jacobs at 10:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Indian Summer Festival celebrates this year's theme, the 2008 theme, Honoring Our Northern Relations, on Sept. 5-7 at Milwaukee's lakefront Henry Maier Festival Park (Summerfest grounds). Indian Summer Festival is North Americas largest American Indian festival. For more information, contact 414-604-1000 or visit the Indian Summer Festival Web site at http://www.indiansummer.org
