IDAHO, Lapwai – Funeral services were held for VERNON DUANE PETERS, 37, on October 29, 2010, at the Pi-Nee-Waus in Lapwai. Interment followed at Red Bear Cemetery in Lenore, Idaho. Vernon was born June 17, 1973. He passed away October 20, 2010, in Colorado.

    Vernon grew up in Lapwai and graduated in 1991. He attended Boise State University for a year before returning to Lapwai to go firefighting. In 1995, Vern was part of a movie crew that produced “Smoke Signals”. In 1997, he enrolled to go to school at Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Vern and his family returned to Lapwai in 2002 and remained there until 2009 when they decided to move to his wife’s family area. Vernon was a traditional man who loved his family and the people who knew him best. (Ta’c Tito’oqan News, November 2010)
