Belcourt man sentenced for Turtle Mountain assault

Minot, North Dakota (AP) January 2011
A man convicted of an assault on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison.

Clint Beston of Belcourt pleaded guilty in federal court to assault resulting in serious bodily injury, and aiding and abetting. Prosecutors say Beston and Joseph Great Walker attacked Francis Cree in March 2009.

U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland sentenced Beston to 33 months in prison.

Great Walker was sentenced in November to 41 months in prison, or nearly 3 1/2 years.

Prosecutors say Cree was struck in the leg several times with a bat or bar and required surgery for a broken leg.
