Man pleads guilty in Tempe teen’s death

Phoenix, Arizona (AP) February 2011
Sentencing is set for next month after a Gila River Indian Community man pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of a Tempe teenager last May.

Maricopa County Superior Court says 23-year-old Steven Landrum entered the guilty plea last week.

Chandler police said at the time they believed Landrum was driving drunk when his vehicle struck a car driven by 18-year-old Cody Bishop.

Court documents said Landrum had a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit.

Chandler police said Bishop was attempting to make a left turn from Ray Road into a business complex at Rural Road when his car was struck by Landrum’s vehicle.

The Corona Del Sol student was flown to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and was taken off life support.
