King County, Wash., sheriffs detectives have arrested a man they say was selling giant fireworks essentially equal to a half stick of dynamite.
Sgt. John Urquhart says the devices called M-1000s or half-sticks are illegal under both state and federal law. The unidentified man was booked for felony unlawful possession of an explosive device and released pending charges.
Urquhart said that four of the devices were purchased in an undercover operation from a fireworks stand on the Muckleshoot Reservation. A search warrant yielded 21 more in the sellers truck.
The spokesman says the man is not a tribal member but leased his stand from a tribal member. He also sold legal fireworks. Urquhart says the tribe was not aware he was selling illegal devices.
