Fort Peck tribal councilman charged with DUI

Poplar, Montana (AP) July 2011

A prosecutor says a Fort Peck tribal council member has been arraigned on a drunk-driving charge.

Tribal prosecutor Stacie Crawford says that Dale DeCoteau pleaded not guilty Monday to driving under the influence.

Wolf Point police stopped DeCoteau on Saturday night for a traffic violation and arrested after he refused a breathalyzer test.

DeCoteau was released on $225 bond after appearing in Fort Peck Tribal Court in Poplar.

A pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 19.

DeCoteau is one of 14 members of the governing body for the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes in northeastern Montana. The 15th member, Darryl Red Eagle, recently died of a heart attack.

DeCoteau’s arrest was first reported by the Fort Peck Journal.
