Gag order issued in Colorado reservation slaying

Durango, Colorado (AP) April 2012

A judge has issued a gag order in the first-degree murder case against a New Mexico teen suspected in the shooting death of a man on Colorado’s Southern Ute Indian Reservation.

The Durango Herald (http://bit.ly/HmI1It ) reports the order was issued, and an arrest affidavit that details the allegations against 18-year-old Elijah Timothy Anglin remains sealed.

Anglin, of Farmington, N.M., was arrested and deputies are still looking for 19-year-old Tomy Lee Mitchell, also of Farmington. They’re suspected in the slaying of 39-year-old Joey Benavidez.

Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Dan Bender says authorities found Anglin that night and he told them he had given a hitchhiker a ride to Benavidez’s home and witnessed the shooting. He said later information indicated Anglin was involved in the shooting.
