Family of man branded with swastika settles suit

Farmington, New Mexico (AP) July 2012

The family of a Navajo man branded with a swastika has settled its lawsuit against McDonald’s.

The Farmington Daily Times ( ) reports that the amount of the settlement is confidential.

Authorities say three men kidnapped Vincent Kee from the McDonald’s where they worked and used a wire hanger to brand a swastika on his arm in April 2010.

Kee’s family filed a lawsuit the following year, alleging that the corporation and the local franchise owners put the public at risk by not conducting a background check on the men.

The attorney for Kee’s family says the settlement covers medical expenses and traditional ceremonies.

McDonald’s spokesman Paul Barrera confirmed the settlement but declined to comment on it. A franchise owner did not return calls from the Daily Times.
