FBI probes slaying in Poplar

Poplar, Montana (AP) 9-07

The FBI is investigating the stabbing death of a Poplar woman.

The supervisory FBI agent in Billings, Ernie Weyand, says the 26-year-old woman was stabbed at a house in Poplar the morning of Aug. 25.

Tribal Public Safety Officer Dale Dakota says police were called to the Poplar residence at 3:50 a.m. He says the woman was taken by ambulance to the hospital in Poplar, where she later died. Dakota says it appears the woman was stabbed once.

Weyand says investigators are not releasing the name of the victim, how many times she was stabbed or whether anyone is in custody in connection with the woman’s death.

Weyand says he hopes to have the investigation completed and turned over to the U.S. Attorney’s Office “very soon.”
