Man accepts plea offer in teen’s death

A St. Francis man has agreed to plead guilty to the stabbing death of a teenager on the Indian Reservation, according to federal court records.

Federal prosecutors allege Melvin Smashed Ice, 38, argued with Brian Clairmont, 17, on June 10, then chased him down and stabbed him in the neck and heart with a pocket knife.

Court records indicate that Smashed Ice accepted a deal that dropped a second-degree murder charge to voluntary manslaughter in exchange for his guilty plea.
