Sentencing delayed for Twin Buttes school officials

Bismarck, North Dakota (AP) 9-07

Sentencing has been delayed for the former president of the Twin Buttes School Board and six other school officials accused of stealing money from the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation school district.

Melissa Starr and six others were indicted last year on charges they conspired to steal about $665,000 in school money over several years.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Clare Hochhalter said all seven officials reached plea agreements with prosecutors.

Sentencing was slated during September but Hochhalter said it has been postponed at least until October.

Each defendant faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
