Inmate escapes from Coconino County jail

Flagstaff, Arizona (AP) 9-07

Authorities are searching for an inmate who escaped from the Coconino County jail in Flagstaff.

Sheriff’s spokesman Gerry Blair says an inmate reported that 27-year-old Emerson White had escaped from the minimum-security area of the jail around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

White was in jail on five counts of felony theft, felony auto theft, felony criminal damage and aggravated DUI.

Authorities believe White either jumped a fence around the recreation area of the jail or went through it.

The sheriff’s office launched a ground and air search for White and are still looking for him. Blair says authorities will focus on areas where White has family members and friends.

Blair says White does not have a history of committing violent felonies.

White, an American Indian, is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, 185 pounds, with short black hair and brown eyes. He has a slight mustache and is wearing navy blue inmate clothing with “CCSO inmate” written on it.
