Sioux nickname supporters plan walk

Grand Forks, North Dakota April 2010

Supporters of the University of North Dakota’s Fighting Sioux nickname plan a 10-block walk on Friday night.

Organizer Danielle Sime isn’t a student or an alumnus of UND but says she is a lifelong fan of the Sioux sports teams.

The nickname and the school’s Indian head logo are being retired after a state Supreme Court ruling last week supported a Board of Higher Education decision nearly a year ago.

Sime says the walk she plans will be a peaceful one. She says that hundreds of people have clicked on a Facebook site saying they will take part.
