Tribal member man pleads guilty in fatal shooting

Phoenix, Arizona (AP) April 2010

A member of the San Carlos Apache tribe has pleaded guilty in federal court to second-degree murder in a shooting last year.

Federal prosecutors say 54-year-old Patrick Hinton, of Bylas, was arguing with a woman in the San Carlos Community on April 11, 2009, when he pointed a .22 rifle at the victim, intending to scare her.

Authorities say the rifle discharged and the bullet fatally struck the woman in the head.

Hinton pleaded guilty in the case Thursday in U.S. District Court in Phoenix. He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 6.
