Ramapough man sentenced for assaulting park ranger

A judge has sentenced a Ramapough Indian to a year in jail for slamming a New Jersey park ranger against an ATV when she tried to arrest him for four-wheel riding.

The incident in Mahwah four years ago led to the fatal shooting of another tribe member.

Otis Mann said he was sorry during sentencing July 12.

Mann admitted he grabbed State Park Police Lt. Kelly Gottheiner by the hair.

Her partner, Chad Walder, was rushing to her aid when he was confronted by another tribe member. Walder shot and killed Emil Mann.

Walder claimed he fired in self-defense. The ranger was tried and acquitted of manslaughter last year.

The two Manns are not related.
