Man faces murder charge in death on Navajo Nation

Tsaile, Arizona (AP) July 2010

A Navajo man who took another man up on an offer to drive him home is accused of killing him.

Adam Benally was charged July 12 in the weekend death of Trevor Stephens in Tsaile on the Navajo Nation. According to an affidavit, Benally and Stephens had been drinking together the night before, and Stephens offered to drive Benally home.

Benally told a tribal investigator that Stephens took a detour and he allowed Stephens to perform a sexual act on him.

Benally said he tried to stab Stephens with a pen when Stephens ``started acting tough.'' That didn't work, and Benally told the investigator he then strangled Stephens, left his body beside the road and drove off.
