Man sought on warrant wounded in Oregon shootout

Warm Springs, Oregon (AP) July 2010

A man suspected of firing at police during a chase on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation was hospitalized following a shootout with members of the U.S. Marshals Oregon Fugitive Task Force.

Task Force spokesman Cory Cunningham says 31-year-old Aldo Antunez opened fire July 22 after officers tried to serve an arrest warrant. Members of the task force returned fire, and the wounded man emerged from a house.

No law enforcement officers were injured.

Cunningham says Antunez was reported in stable condition.

Antunez had been wanted since May 20, when he and Waylon Weaselhead are accused of firing shots while fleeing from Madras and Warm Springs police.

Weaselhead was arrested during June.

Cunningham says Antunez was wanted for attempted murder, and more charges will likely be filed after the latest exchange of gunfire.
