BIA officer for Spirit Lake charged in stabbing

A Bureau of Indian Affairs police officer for the Spirit Lake Nation has been charged for allegedly stabbing his wife in the chest with a kitchen knife.

Court documents say 41-year-old Duane Gunville stabbed his wife during an argument at their Devils Lake home. She was treated at a hospital and released.

Gunville has been charged with aggravated assault. Bond was set at $50,000, and as of Aug. 14, Gunville was no longer being held.

Gunville faces up to five years in prison if convicted.
