Cultural center planned for White Shield 5-5-07

WHITE SHIELD, N.D. (AP) - Three Affiliated Tribes officials are planning a $1 million cultural center in this city.

Bid opening for construction of the 6,000-square-foot center is set for May 17, and groundbreaking is slated for early June. Federal grant money will pay about three-fourths of the project cost.

The center will be a circular building, representing an earth lodge, and will contain a cultural display area, office space and meeting rooms, said Lisa Redford, director of the Tribal Planning and Grants Management Department.

The goal is to have the project completed by the end of the year, she said.
