Maine author Ed Rice is going to the Baseball Hall of Fame, where he will moderate a panel addressing the role of Native Americans in Major League Baseball.
Rice is the author of Baseballs First Indian, Louis Sockalexis: Penobscot Legend, Cleveland Indian. He says Sockalexis, who grew up on Maines Indian island and played for the Cleveland Indians in 1897, was the first Native American to play in the big leagues.
Rice will speak at the Hall of Fames annual Symposium on Baseball and American Culture, which examines baseballs impact on American culture. The event is scheduled for June 3-5.
