Sante Fe, New Mexico (AP) April 2011
Five New Mexico Indian communities are sharing $3.46 million in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The housing authorities at the Jicarilla Apache Nation and San Felipe Pueblo will each receive $825,000.
Housing authorities at the pueblos of Ohkay Owingeh, Cochiti and Santa Ana are receiving $605,000 each.
The funds come from HUDs Indian community development block grant program.
That program helps meet housing needs for low-income Native American communities.
The grants were announced recently by Democratic U.S. Sen. Jeff Bingaman.
