Quechan Tribe receives $472K from Justice Dept.

A Yuma-area tribe has received a $472,000 grant from the U.S. Justice Department to hire personnel, buy equipment and fund training and a court program.

Acting U.S. Attorney Ann Birmingham Scheel announced the Quechan (KEE’-shan) Tribe would receive the grant to enhance law enforcement practices and sustain crime prevention and intervention efforts.

Tribal President Keeny Escalanti tells the Yuma Sun (http://bit.ly/qLmddg ) the money will be spent on law enforcement officers, a communications system, vehicles, facility maintenance and providing services to the community.
