Prairie Island Indian community donates to flooded communities

Winona, Minnesota (AP) 9-07

The Prairie Island Indian Community has donated $120,000 to six flood-damaged communities in southeastern Minnesota.

Each community received $20,000 – $10,000 each from the Prairie Island Indian Community and a matching $10,000 from the Treasure Island Casino operated by the community.

The mayors of Winona, Goodview, Stockton, Rushford, St. Charles and Minnesota City accepted the checks on Thursday at Winona City Hall from Audrey Bennet, president of the Prairie Island Indian Community.

Bennet said the Indian Community is also located in a flood plain and felt the pain of the local communities.

Since 1994, the Prairie Island Indian Community has donated more than 14 million dollars to a variety of civic and nonprofit organizations.
