Government and tribes to discuss modernization

Watertown, South Dakota (AP) 9-07

A Sept. 28 meeting at Watertown will examine how the federal government can modernize its operations to better serve American Indian tribes.

It’s the last of 12 meetings the U.S. Interior Department is holding around the nation in September on its Indian Affairs Modernization Initiative.

The department said it’s an opportunity to work with tribes in preparing for projected personnel retirements and increased operating costs, and discussing how to use technology to improve efficiency between the government and tribes.

The meeting will be held at Dakota Sioux Casino near Watertown.
