Parolees on Soboba Reservation told to leave

San Jacinto, California (AP) 8-08

California authorities have ordered five parolees living on the Soboba Reservation to leave because of escalating violence between the San Jacinto tribe and law enforcement.

Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation spokesman Gordon Hinkle says officials don’t want to put agents or parolees in the line of fire.

Tribal Chairman Robert Salgado Sr. calls the state order discriminatory.

The Soboba tribe and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department have been at odds since three tribal members were killed in shootouts with deputies.
