Former Three Affiliated Tribes chairman loses election appeal 6-18-07

NEW TOWN, N.D. (AP) - A tribal appeals panel has rejected an appeal by former Three Affiliated Tribes chairman Tex Hall, who contested his November election loss.

Hall had asked the Northern Plains Inter-Tribal Court of Appeals in Aberdeen, S.D., to look into whether a Three Affiliated Tribes election board properly handled his complaints.

The three-judge panel on Monday upheld the election board decision.

Hall, who was seeking an unprecedented third term in office, had challenged the election results in which he lost to Marcus Wells Jr., by 233 votes. Hall alleged Wells gave cash and rooms at Four Bears Casino to potential voters and tampered with ballots. Wells denied wrongdoing.

James Bluestone, clerk of the tribal appeals court, said Hall has 14 days to petition the court for a rehearing.
