Two Colorado tribes will each get $22.5 million in federal stimulus money.

The money will go to the Southern Utes and the Ute Mountain Utes, both in southwestern Colorado.

The Southern Utes’ share is for refinancing activities. The Ute Mountain Utes’ share is for a tourism facility.

The money is part of $1 billion awarded to 56 tribes nationwide.

A second round of awards is planned, also totaling $1 billion. The deadline for applying for that money is Jan. 2.
