Acoma Pueblo adopts local development act

Acoma Pueblo has adopted the local economic development act, which will allow its Acoma Business Enterprises to take the lead in reviewing applications for development projects.

The Acoma Tribal Council will have the final say on projects that the agency recommends.

Passage of the local economic development act means a community adopts an ordinance creating an economic development organization and a strategic plan.

That allows public resources and private partnerships to work together as a catalyst for development. It also lets local authorities contribute public assets and join partnerships on state economic development efforts through the New Mexico Economic Development Department or the governor’s office.

More than 60 communities in the state have adopted such an ordinance.
