North Dakota senator says bill would boost reservation jobs

Bismarck, North Dakota (AP) June 2010

Sen. Byron Dorgan says he has introduced a bill to help create jobs on the nation’s American Indian reservations.

The North Dakota Democrat says the legislation would improve access to investment capital and remove roadblocks to tribal participation in federal jobs programs.

Dorgan says some of the highest unemployment rates in the nation are on reservations. He says it’s a chronic problem.

Dorgan is chairman of the Senate’s Indian Affairs committee.
