Navajo Nation officials proclaim day of prayer for peace 7-07

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. (AP) - Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. and two other top tribal officials have proclaimed Saturday as a day of prayer for peace and the safe return home of warriors.

The proclamation asks that all religious affiliations unite in a day of prayer “to end all wars and conflicts and to support all active-duty military personnel with appropriate services and benefits.”

“As a nation with diversity and different faiths, it is incumbent upon all members of society to come together and unite in a day of prayer for peace and an end to all wars and conflicts so our military men and women can return home safely,” the proclamation says.

The proclamation, from Shirley, Navajo Nation Council Speaker Lawrence T. Morgan and Navajo Chief Justice Herb Yazzie notes that warriors stepped forward to answer the call to duty after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the U.S., and that Navajos have always supported the United States in wartime.
