 Jordan Lomahoema
Hopi High School freshman Jordan Lomahoema is trying to raise $6,000 so he can go on a People to People tour this summer.

People to People takes students overseas so they can learn the culture, history, food and language of other countries. If Lomahoema can raise the funds he will go to Italy, France and Greece. The 23 day trip would begin in June.

Lomahoema was invited to join the tour by a letter, but he didn’t know how he was selected.

“The trip will help me with my social studies and I will also get academic credits for the trip,” he said. “This out of state activity will be both an education and a vacation.”

Lomahoema plans to do yard work, chop wood, have yard sales and food sales to raise the money for his trip. He said his grandparents support his endeavor as they are excited for him and they have been sending letters to relatives and businesses seeking donations.

Lomahoema, who maintains a B/C average, plays basketball. He is also active in Hopi High’s Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps. He plans to major in law enforcement in college.

“I’ll accept any kind of donation so I can represent the Hopi Reservation on this trip,” he said.

He is the grandson of Joseph Laban and Loretta Koshiway of Keams Canyon.

To donate or for more information, telephone 928-313-0924 or send checks or money order to Jordan Lomahoema, P.O. Box 935, Keams Canyon, 86034.
