Cuomo to review opposition to Catskill casino

The operators of video slot machine “racinos” at New York racetracks say they’re against a deal cut late in Gov. David Paterson’s term to allow an Indian-run casino in the Catskills.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says last week that he’ll look into the deal.

The complaint is from racino operators at harness tracks in Saratoga Springs, Monticello, Yonkers, the Finger Lakes and near Buffalo as well as the future operators of a video slots facility at the Aqueduct thoroughbred track. They say the casino will cut into revenues they provide to the state as well as local jobs.

The Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohican Indians, which signed the contract to open the Catskill casino, says the tracks are trying to eliminate what they perceive to be competition.

The Mohican band expects the state to honor the contract.
