A letter to Gov. Paul LePage from a Maine lawmaker says the states economic commissioner made "outrageous statements" during a speech to Aroostook County residents that led to the resignation of the official.
The governors office released the letter from Democratic State Rep. John Martin of Eagle Lake that led to the resignation last month of former economic development commissioner Phil Congdon.
The Portland Press Herald says the governors office released the letter in response to a freedom of information request from Maine Media.
It had been reported that Congdon made comments critical of affirmative action and some that offended the Native American community.
Congdon has denied making the comments. He has said he was forced from office. He resigned April 27.
