Three 2007 Udall Scholarships to UM students 5-2-07

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - Three University of Montana students are recipients of national Udall Scholarship awards.

Environmental studies majors Kendra Kallevig of Sidney and Katie Pritchard of Walla Walla, Wash., and Rebecca Guiao of Seattle, who majors in environmental studies and resource conservation, each received a $5,000 Udall Scholarship for the 2007-08 academic year at UM.

Eighty students from 60 colleges were selected for the Udall award from 434 candidates nominated by 221 colleges and universities. They were chosen on the basis of commitment to careers in the environment, health care or tribal public policy; and for leadership potential and academic achievement.

Kallevig is a UM junior and 2004 graduate of Sidney High School. Pritchard graduated from Walla Walla High School in 2004 and is also a junior. Guiao, a sophomore, is a 2004 graduate of The Northwest School, a college preparatory school in Seattle.

The scholarships are awarded by the Morris K. Udall Foundation, which was established by Congress in 1992 to honor Udall's 30 years of service in the U.S. House of Representatives.
