Wisconsin ranks 8th in revenue from Indian gambling 6-28-07

WASHINGTON (AP) - Wisconsin ranked eighth in the nation last year in revenue from Indian gaming facilities with 11 tribes earning $1.2 billion.

Wisconsin Indian gaming revenues increased 3.3 percent from 2005 to 2006, according to a report released Thursday. Revenues increased nationally by 10.8 percent to $25.5 billion.

Food, lodging, shopping and entertainment brought Wisconsin Indian casinos an additional $88 million. The tribes paid $83.9 million to state and local governments.

The Indian Gaming Industry Report by economist Alan Meister covers Wisconsin and 27 other states. It does not break out revenues by tribe or casino.

Wisconsin tribes operated 26 gaming facilities last year, with 15,682 gaming machines and 289 table games, the annual report said.
