The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Council, which runs Foxwoods Resort Casino in eastern Connecticut, has announced that the president of Mashantucket Pequot Gaming Enterprises has resigned.

The tribal council said that Michael Speller, who has appointed in December 2008, will pursue other career opportunities.

William Sherlock, former president of Foxwoods Resort Casino, will be interim president.

The Tribal Council and senior government and gambling executives will begin a search for the next president and chief executive officer.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribe has reported declines in slot revenue as visitors pulled back on spending during the recession.

In January, a United Auto Workers local reached agreement with Foxwoods Resort Casino on a contract that will increase wages and establish a fairer distribution of tips for 2,500 casino dealers.
