by Nick Vander Puy Reserve, Wisconsin (IndianCountryTV)
During late June Dr. Leslie Allee and Phd candidate Scott Perez from Cornell University visited the Lac Courte Oreilles Reserve in northwestern Wisconsin to enlist the aid of youth in collecting native ladybugs.
Native ladybugs are disappearing in the eastern United States, being pushed out probably by Asian Ladybugs.
Allee and Perez want to find out how native ladybugs are doing in the upper midwest.
Native ladybugs are important because they are more aggressive than Asian ladybugs. Native ladybugs eat the aphids who consume plants like corn, beans, and squash.
So protecting diversity in the bug world is important for keeping around the food we rely on.
