Congressman Dave Obey: Health Care, Politics, and the War

Produced by Nick Vander Puy
Reserve, Wisconsin (

As chair of the powerful House Appropriations Committe, seventh district Congressman Dave Obey from Wisconsin has his hands on government purse strings. His influence extends to war and peace and everything in between.

Passing through the north woods in the middle of February 2010 Obey talked with bomb detonator manufacturers in Spooner, health care officials in Minong, and ended up in Superior, Wisconsin.

Earlier in the day, Sen. Evan Bayh from Indiana announced he's leaving the US Senate because "politics in America is wrecked and the work of the people is not being done."

Congressman Obey answers questions about the health care debacle, politics, and a Lac Courte Oreilles Ojbiwe man on his way to the war in Afghanistan.
"I want to know how this war is going to be paid for without destroying our country."
